Wind Point Portfolio Company St. George Logistics Adds Dan Marino to Board of Directors
CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Wind Point Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm, announced today that Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino has joined the board of its portfolio company, St. George Logistics (“STG”).
STG is North America’s largest provider of outsourced container freight station (CFS) services and is a leading provider of value-added warehousing and distribution solutions. STG operates 24 port and inland facilities totaling approximately four million square feet and maintains a national network that includes more than 80 partner facilities. Wind Point acquired STG in July 2016 in partnership with CEO Chris Jamroz and President & COO Hessel Verhage.
“I am energized to join an organization that not only leads its industry but also continues to strive towards constant improvement,” said Marino. “I put great focus on partnering with people who are passionate about what they do, and I am very excited to help grow this great business alongside Wind Point, Chris Jamroz and his entire STG team.”
Considered one of the greatest players in professional football history, Dan Marino spent his 17-year career as quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. Under his leadership, the Dolphins were perennial playoff contenders while Marino set an unprecedented number of individual NFL records. As he cemented his place as the most prolific passer in NFL history, Dan was named to the Pro Bowl nine times and earned major NFL recognitions including NFL MVP, NFL Comeback Player of the Year, and NFL Man of the Year. Throughout his career, Marino was considered a prominent team and community leader both on and off the field and was inducted into the pro football Hall of Fame in 2005.
Following his retirement from football, Dan defined himself as an entrepreneur and philanthropist. Among other endeavors, Dan is an equity partner in Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, co-owner of Passing Time Winery, a product spokesman, and formerly co-host of NFL programs on CBS and HBO. In 1992, Dan and his wife, Claire, founded the Dan Marino Foundation, which has distributed tens of millions of dollars to the research and treatment of childhood neurodevelopment issues. Among its many initiatives, the foundation partnered with Miami Children’s Hospital to develop the Dan Marino Center, an integrated childhood neurodevelopmental center that provides outpatient services to more than 25,000 children annually. To date, the Marino Foundation has raised over $58 million.
Konrad Salaber, Principal with Wind Point stated, “During his time on the field and after, Dan has developed leadership capabilities that are unique yet highly transferable across team-based organizations. STG is a high growth, high energy company and we are excited to have Dan on board as we continue building a winning and enduring corporate culture.”
“With an ultra-successful career and a wide range of experiences in professional sports, business, and philanthropy, Dan rounds out our Board of Directors extremely well,” added Chris Jamroz. “As we continue to accelerate STG’s rate of growth, I have no doubt that Dan’s advice and perspectives will prove valuable to our Board and executive leadership team as we navigate both challenges and opportunities.”
